The Story Behind Summerfield

Summerfield Academy is an exceptional preschool in Spring, Texas serving children six weeks to eleven years of age, celebrating 36 years in the community. Founded in 1985 by Joyce Harlow, the academy is now owned by one of Ms. Harlow’s first students, April Lord Ruzicka.

Surrounded by students, Joyce clearly remembers standing in the middle of her newly purchased acre of land, when a smiling, curly, red-haired girl named Summer came running across the field towards her yelling, “Mrs. Harlow, Mrs. Harlow!” “In that moment I knew my preschool had to be named Summerfield Academy.”

The Learning Process

At Summerfield Academy, it always has and always will be about the children. They learn through active exploration and involvement in a thematic, literature based curriculum.

Summerfield teachers facilitate the learning process by creating a wide variety of environments for your child to explore and experience, building year over year. They are committed to providing a developmentally appropriate educational program where children feel safe and loved. Teachers strive to teach the “whole” child, the social, emotional, physical and intellectual.

Research has shown that much of what you need to succeed in life is established in preschool before you enter kindergarten. During that time, the human brain undergoes rapid development, it’s a period when a child builds cognitive skills, the foundation for reading, math, science and academics, as well as character skills, social-emotional growth, and gross-motor skills. At Summerfield Academy each child enjoys the freedom to advance at his or her own developmental level in an environment conducive to learning. The classes are designed to be developmentally appropriate for each age level.

Schoolers: Before and After School

Summerfield Academy understands that having to get multiple children to various destinations can be hectic at times. We now provide a “one-stop-shop” for our families by offering the convenience and care for your Schoolers.

Summerfield recognizes the growing physical, intellectual, and social competence of the increasingly independent school-age child. Our before and after school program will provide your child with an engaging, comfortable and stimulating environment.

Summerfield’s innovative before and after school program allows school-age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. Eager to achieve socially and academically, while expanding their knowledge of the world, Schoolers seek new challenges, close friendships, and increasing responsibilities. From homework help to fun physical activities, Summerfield’s after school program is designed to support your child’s academic needs.

Breakfast, snacks and transportation to and from school are provided.

Summerfield’s before and after school program is currently for school age children 5-11 years old who attend Kreinhop, Roth, Zwink, Fox, Muller & North Hampton Elementary schools.

The fun has come to Summerfield Academy! These special activities will enhance your child’s regularly scheduled daily curriculum to create an even more entertaining and educational environment during the summer months.
