October 2017 E-Blast

HoustonStrong header
Well, the flood waters that inundated our city are now finally receding and we can now begin to see what there is for us to do. It's overwhelming. But we all know that by forming a human chain, all of us holding hands with one another, we will not only survive but will endure and create a better life for each and every one of us and Houston will emerge as the Can Do City of America.

This is what we at The KD figure we can do:

A new special section in The Kid's Directory will start in October. We're calling it HOUSTON STRONG. We invite any and all businesses who are reaching out to the Houston community with any recovery related services, be they remediation of any sort (think home, businesses, landscaping, etc.), discounted pricing or promotional programs to give Houston families a leg up or maybe a benefit event, offerings from our religious and spiritual communities and medical and psychological services to help our families cope, maybe animal rescue, shelter and rehoming efforts as well. There is just a wealth of possibilities. The point is; we have a home and a showcase for you in The Kid's Directory. Should you decide to join us, we are offering some promotional programs that can reduce your advertising costs and we will give your efforts a complimentary placement in our Houston Strong listing that will go into all three editions of The Kid's Directory. The listing will be similar to our long standing successful Kamp Kids program (which most of you are familiar with): it's a special page in all our books and on our webpage www.kids-houston.com that offers 5 lines for your message and contact information which will translate to a reach of about 130,000 of our readers. The Kid's Directory is committed to these efforts long term. If you have any suggestions please feel free to contact us.

The Kid's Directory will continue to act as a Houston Food Bank and Houston SPCA collection station. We invite any and all who can donate, to stop by and say hello and if you have any ideas of other things we can do...let us know!

Hayrides and Pumpkin Piesspooktacular fun guide
While school is just starting, the Fall festivities are just around the corner, followed ever so quickly by the holidays. And have we got some fun things in store for YOU!

A special section devoted to our advertisers that are planning festive and fun activities in October sliding into November. Think pumpkins, corn mazes, hayrides, spooky costumes and parties, fundraisers, holiday special events, holiday family retreats and dare I say this...advertisers that are looking to get a jump on the Christmas season.

Last year a number of our current advertisers spooked up and enlarged their ads for October. This year we are even offering a tremendous prize for the most festive and spooktacular ad. Great fun for everyone! We are filling up fast! A Christmas tree farm and some retail folks have already reserved space to get an early start on Christmas.

Deadline for reserving your space will be September 15th.

christmas in octoberThe Holidays Are Coming...
Santa's discounts just ahead of the holiday rush!
If you are on Santa's naughty list (defined as all advertisers that have never been with The KD or have not been with us since before September 2016) then we are offering you Christmas in October! It’s substantial savings, ranging from $50-250! Just like Santa, we want you to get back onto the nice list so you will have to run October through December to take advantage of this savings. Contact us for more details before deadline on September 15th.

November and December are joining forces for the Holiday Gift & Activity Guide (HGAG) issue
In the spirit of getting all of the family together over the holidays (we know, it's always a tenuous idea because of that one crazy uncle), the November and December books are coming together to celebrate the holidays. We had such a great success with our Special Summer Edition at a time when everyone's schedules were crazy, so we thought we would offer the same during the holidays. Remember, it's the same pricing because it's the same great distribution both months.

Here’s a list of some ideas of what you may want to promote in the upcoming HGAG:

  • Fall and Christmas Festivals, Events & Activities
  • Holiday camps and sports programs
  • Early School Enrollments
  • Summer Camps that want to get a head start on spring and summer sign-ups or any family oriented holiday event.

Gift planning and giving starts early, so brand your ad to promote gift certificates too! Grandparents, in particular, love to buy experiences and education for their grandkids. So many of our families use the guide not just for holiday gift giving, but also to plan ahead for the Spring semester and summer.

little beakers elfslistAn extra bonus of the upcoming HGAG - The Elf's Short List
Magnify the impact of your display ad by extending your reach into all 3 Houston markets and online. Elf's Short List is a great collection of fall and holiday events, activities and gift giving options. It's also a great way to promote your winter camps and other child care during the holiday break. This great listing runs in all three markets from October through December, as well as a special link on our website, for only $165.00 (including the hotlink and ad development)! Check out last year's page in the book by clicking here.

Get in touch with us to take advantage of this great opportunity no later than October 16!
