April 2017 E-Blast

The First Rights of Spring & Narrowing of
the Window of Opportunity

Spring and Summer Activity GuideAs we've talked about before, we are all in the midst of the busiest time of the year for The KD as well as for the majority of our advertisers: All of us looking to keep our businesses busy through the spring and summer and into the fall. What The KD offers up to the mix is the Grand Daddy of our special sections; the Spring and Summer Activity Guide (SSAG) long known as the Gold Standard relied upon by Houston families for over 25 years. It will run through the month of June. It has become the place to go for Houston families looking to find a huge variety of summer schools, camp programs of all sorts, vacation notions and enrollment opportunities for the upcoming fall. It is the resource guide you need to keep the family busy as spring rolls into summer and then into fall.

The second big thing we do over the next few months is sponsor and promote a huge number of family events (we had 13 scheduled through April--some of those have already come and gone--more on the way for May and June). The scheduled events are listed below and some offer the opportunity for our advertisers to join the festivities and meet all sorts of prospective new customers.

The consequence of all this activity is that the demand for The Kid's Directories skyrockets. We respond by overprinting The Kid's crazy...which has given rise to our 'chant' that this...this is The Big Bang for Your Buck Time of Year. Your advertising dollar just goes a lot further for the next few months.

A word of caution: your time to capitalize
on all this goodness is running out

time running outFamilies begin their spring and summer planning in November and December. Often most plans have been laid by March. We are now rolling through March and into April so for those of you who have not begun a marketing program for the upcoming Spring and better get a move on. We call it the funnel effect where every month beyond say February finds fewer families in the market for a summer school or summer camp or likely whatever it is that you want to market. So, don't daudle or dally...give us a call or email and we will get you taken care of.

running out of spaceYour're not just running out of time,
you're running out of space as well

Available advertising space in our publications is getting tight and our Kamp Kids special advertising section has been completely full for the past 2 months. So for the next couple of months, space of any sort in The Kid's Directory is going to be just a bit tough to get ahold of. Yet another reason to get motivated.

easter bunnyAn Easter Special

In honor of that fluffly little fellow, and in order for us to accommodate the ever increasing demand for advertising space, The KD has decided to conduct our own little Easter Egg hunt. Over the next couple of months, we will randomly select advertisers in the Kamp Kids special advertising section and give them (that's right...its free) a display ad in one of our publications (as space allows). Just think of it as our way of saying thanks!

And here are the sponsored events that are on the books for April

  • The McDonald's Houston Children's Festival, benefiting Child Advocates:
April 1st and 2nd...This event is the Big Kahoona of family events now on record as the nation's largest family event. This will be the event's 29th year of operation and The Kid's Directory has been part and parcel of it for at least 27 of those years. We have grown along with the event to become a prime sponsor with our own stage, audience area, as well as some interactive booth spaces.

And what an event it is: Held in Downtown Houston encompassing some 8 square blocks in the heart of the city, the festival draws families from all over Houston and surrounding cities (attendance approaches 75,000 folks!)

It's a blast!! Lots of interactive activities for kids and families. There will be clowns, rock climbing, a variety of stages, a mini circus, the world's largest potato, moonwalks, face painting, music, and a huge variety of food & entertainment.

Should you want to join in, you can contact Beth Craig 713-553-6900 or for information about booth space. As an advertiser with The Kid's Directory, you also
have the option of joining us at The Family Fun Zone. We need lots of volunteers to
help out at our booths and talent for our stage. Think of it as free marketing and a
grand way to interact with thousands of prospective customers. To sign up visit
