April 2016 E-Blast

A Story From the Front:
Better Late Than...Well...Later
quote bubbles
One of our most wondrous sales persons, Hope, got in contact with a potential advertiser in early February. Overwhelmed a bit by her frantic schedule and family affairs, Cindy Gifford, the owner of Kid's Resort, was concerned that she was getting a bit of a late start for her Spring Break and Summer Camp program...but decided, nonetheless, that she would place a 1/3 page ad in the March edition of our West publication. Well, within 3 days after the completion of our distribution, Cindy wrote a note to Hope which in part said; "I have never had such a quick response from advertising. I just spoke to my office and they said we have already received 5 inquiries from interested parents. Thank you for helping me construct a great ad." So if you're a bit behind schedule...too, just know that The KD can help!

Another Round of Bigger Bangs for Your Buck
While this upcoming April will be the busiest month that The Kid's Directory has ever experienced, May is shaping up to be no slouch. So far we have one event planned that we sponsor: The Pasadena Strawberry Festival with an expected attendance of 65,000 folks. This will be their 43rd year of operation and our 7th year of participation and sponsorship.Pasadena Strawberry Festival strawberries

A bit of history; after the great flood of 1900 that laid waste to The Texas Gulf Coast, one and a half million strawberry plants were planted in Pasadena. In short order, the low lying scruffy little plant grew to create an industry that propelled Pasadena to become the largest supplier of strawberries in the south. So in 1974, in homage to 'sweet salvation', the people of Pasadena created this festival...andPasadena Strawberry Festival strawberries it's been growing ever since. Expect things like a parade, a beauty pageant, lots of entertainment, carnival rides, a Kid's Adventure Zone, and the world's largest strawberry shortcake. It is held at the Pasadena Fair Grounds from Friday, May 20th to Sunday the 22nd (www.strawberryfest.org). Kid's Directories will be made available to folks entering the event and will be placed in the Kid's Adventure Zone as well.

The other bit of really good news is that advertisers who missed the boat for the April issue can jump into the May editions of The Kid's Directory. May advertisers then will not only have a presence at the Strawberry Festival, but they will also be invited to join us at some of the events that we have scheduled in April. You can view those events on our website (www.kids-houston.com): Go to our newsletter page and look for the March newsletter. Just to reiterate, The KD will be involved in some 11 different events in April with expected crowds of some 150,000 folks. We will be sponsoring and staffing 3 of those 11 events and invite all our advertisers to attend these events and interact with hordes of parents and kids.McDonald's Houston Children's Festival

A special word about the Nation's Largest Children's Festival: The McDonald's Houston Children's Festival Benefiting Child Advocates to be held in downtown Houston on April 23rd and 24th. Attendance is expected to top 70,000 people. This is Houston's best family event with lots of interactive activities for kids and their families. There will be lots of food, entertainment and games. The KD has sponsored this event for the past 25 years. Consequently, the folks at the Children's Festival have been kind enough to provide us with our own area called The Kid's Directory Family Fun Zone. We will have our own stage, interactive things for the kids to play with, a tattoo parlor, art projects, close hand and stage magic shows as well as a variety of performers up on our stage. Great Fun and Great Opportunity for all.

So join us. We need volunteers at our booth area to help hand out Kid's Directory Goodie Bags filled with Kid's Directories and material from our advertisers. Volunteers are also needed to operate our tattoo parlor, supervise art projects and various games of chance and skill. We need kids and grownups who love to entertain to grace our stage and present themselves to the throngs of folks in our audiences. All you need do is to go to our home page on our website (www.kids-houston.com) and click on Sponsored Events. Find the Houston Children's Festival...and just below that is a button that will take you to a sign up page. Put your business out there amongst some new potential customers! We're all going to have such a Great Time!!!

The Spring and Summer Activity Guide (SSAG)...is almost gone...Spring and Summer Activity Guide
Summer is just around the corner. Our kids will be out of school at the end of May or the first of June...and they will be looking for something to do. We have just 2 publications left that will contain the SSAG (May and June). Not much time left to corral these kids into your summer program.

A message to our advertisers; now is the time to tout your program's flexibility. In other words, can your summer program accept kids for weekly registration or even better, does your program accept 'drop in' kids? Consider that most families are well on their way to scheduling up their summer until the fall school term begins. But everyone is going to have some holes between a family vacation and a summer school or an arrival of the grandparents. If your program can be flexible enough to help these families smooth out their summer plans then The KD can help you get 'the word out'.
