January 2018 E-Blast

Happy New Year 2018
"The year of stability"

new year hand

So...What's ahead?

It's going to be a year of prosperity and calm (we hope) and we're here to see that you and your business share in the good tidings and calm. It is also a time of year that is full of growth potential with huge numbers of festivals and events...and the KD will be in the thick of all of it.

The Early Enrollment Guide (EEG)EEG Banner
January and February 2018

February will be the last month of the Early Enrollment Guide for 2018. Now we will have the Back to School Guide in August and September but by then most families will already have the kids' schools lined up. So start early in February with your open houses, tours and parents night so you can relax a bit over the summer months. Your ad in The Kid's Directory will help solidify your brand and the KD will help publicize and promote your open house schedule on the home page of our website and list it in our calendar of events for free.

This is a great opportunity for schools to push their fall as well as their summer programs. Remember that a happy summer camper can translate into an eager and attentive student come the first day of school in August. Too often, schools fail to see that a summer program at their school provides a gateway to full occupancy in the fall.

Spring and Summer Activity Guide (SSAG)SSAG Banner
January to July 2018

The SSAG will be in its second month come February and will continue to run through the June/July issue. This special section has long since been regarded as Houston's gold standard for informing Houston families of all that is available in the upcoming busy spring and summer. The good news for our readers and advertisers is that everything we have in our books has been vetted. In other words, we advertise those programs and companies that we know something about. Some of the businesses that include themselves in this special section have been doing so for over 27 years demonstrating their alignment with The KD's mission statement of offering our readers family resources committed to excellence and exceptional levels of customer service. Heck, if you have a question about any of our advertisers at any time...just give the office a call. Surely someone here will be able to give you bunches of background information and guidance. For us, it's all just family and we all have a story to tell about uncle Harry.

One more thing: Kamp Kids (KK)kamp kids

And then there is the additional treat of a promotional program that we've had in place for the past 3 years called Kamp Kids. It runs in all of our publications from January through July. KK amounts to a listing on a special page that will include your contact information and a brief description of your offering. The Kamp Kid's page will be placed in every publication both printed and online for a small nominal cost. The real purpose of the KK, as designed, is to economically expand your coverage and increase your budget flexibility. Say, you're running a gymnastic summer camp in the central KD and you'd like to extend your reach into Sugar Land and Katy. What to do? Well, you could run an ad in the Central and in the West publications or run a larger ad in the Central and expand your reach into the North and West through Kamp Kids. The possibilities and combos are endless. We'll help you sort it all out.

The Big Bang for your Buck Time of Yearbig bang banner

During the time of the SSAG---festivals, cultural and art events, fun runs, school carnivals and a host of other activities abound. Everybody wants to get out into the lovely spring weather and play. In the last newsletter, I highlighted all the scheduled upcoming events that The KD is sponsoring and/or participating in the near term and have included them again below (this newsletter and others going back to 2006 can be found on our More events will surely pop up in the next month or so...(We'll keep you posted in our monthly newsletters). At present, the count is 7 events through the month of May. What is important for you the reader and advertiser to know is that these 7 events will offer up over 100,000 attendees...forty percent of which we estimate, will go home with a Kid's Directory in their hands and all this additional distribution doesn't cost our advertisers one red cent. It is just what we do! On top of that, some of these events ask The KD to offer up interactive activities and maybe a bit of entertainment. Give our office a call to find out which is which. Heck, you and your staff may even want to participate at our booth and interface with lots of potential customers and engage in some business networking.

One Final Word About
The Big Kahuna...the largest family event in the U.S.A.

houston childrens festivalCome Play With Us!

The McDonald's Houston Children's Festival, benefiting Child Advocates, is coming up April 7th & 8th! This is the largest & best family event in the United States, now in its 30th year. The event draws from the entire Houston Metropolitan area. Attendance will be in excess of 65,000 plus people, representing every demographic, all gathered in downtown Houston.

The KD has been a major sponsor for over 26 years. All of our advertisers are invited to join us to hand out their promotional materials, meet new customers, business network, and be part of our activities.

It's good business and great fun!

We also have a large stage for our advertisers to showcase their talents and capabilities. Think dancing, singing, magic shows, gymnastic demonstrations, music, robotic shows, etc. If you can entertain, we will give you scads of happy families and thunderous applause. Then there is the notion of new customers, just for you.

The sign up form is on our website. We do ask those performing on stage to also have a representative(s) in our booth, stuffing and/or handing out goodie bags (with your information too) and helping in our play area.

The stage & booth fill up fast so sign up as soon as you can!
Here's the link:

With your help, we look forward to making this the best McDonald's Houston Children's Festival ever.

P.S. If you have already signed up, thank you. You will be receiving booth location, wristbands and event particulars right around March 20, 2018.
